Historic Myanmar National Election Results

November 23, 2015
Myanmar Union Election Commission reported that 77% of seats of Myanmar's National Election were won by the National League for Democracy (NLD) Party in Myanmar, headed by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi a nobel laureate, pro-democracy advocate, and former political prisoner. This gives the NLD enough seats to create majority governments in both houses of parliament. The military-aligned Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) won just 10% of seats. This is a most historic election in Myanmar, which many hope will pave the way for further democratic and economic reforms in a country dominated by military governments over the last six decades. The NLD won a landslide election in 1990 but the results were annulled by the then military government, and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was placed under house arrest. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/23/final-myanmar-results-show-aung-san-suu-kyis-party-won-77-of-seats
